The campers are supervised at all times on the mountain and during activities. The staff and camp director live in the same hotel to make sure that everyone is happy. Our ratio of staff to campers is at least 1 staff member for every 8 campers. Our coaches are also certified pros and the Blackcomb Glacier is patrolled by professional patrol.
After riding we offer supervised activities, any campers who choose not to participate may be allowed, depending on their age, to shop in Whistler village which is a small enclosed village with no cars in the main center (just steps from our hotel). All campers must check in at specified times and we are aware that younger campers have different needs than older campers. We do NOT allow drugs, drug paraphernalia or alcohol with our minor campers. If required, parents will be contacted and campers may be sent home immediately without refund.
Because underage Local campers do not stay at our hotel and it is very hard for us to provide the proper supervision otherwise, parents have 2 choices:
Whistler is perfect for families because while their children participate in the camp, parents can play golf, go biking on the valley trails, lunch on a patio, shop in the village, fly-fish or take a helicopter tour of our spectacular scenery etc. For more information on all the summer Whistler activities and hotel accommodation options, go to Tourism Whistler’s website at: www.whistler.com or call them on: 1-888-944-7853
As most children enjoy being part of the camp experience where they fully integrate with the other campers, it is most popular for the parents to stay in a separate room or hotel. If your child does not want to share a bedroom, parents have the option to upgrade to a private room. Your child will still have two other “roommates” in the suite but their room will be private.
Accommodation options available to parents:1) Private Suite Upgrade: This might be a good option if you want to stay in Whistler with your young (7-11yrs) old camper, and have concerns about them being too young to stay on their own. Please contact us for pricing.
Please plan your flights into Vancouver International Airport for arrival/departure between 11 am and 3 pm. Please notify us if you are planning on having children sent as “unaccompanied minors” – there is often an additional charge through the airlines for arrivals and/or departures. Please verify this with your airline.
Airport Arrivals: We will have our easily identifiable staff waiting at the Domestic and International Arrival Gates (just outside of customs), from 11 am to 3 pm each Friday.
If you are driving to camp: Whistler is approximately 2 hours north of Vancouver. Please join us at the Tantalus Lodge at 4200 Whistler Way. For those staying with us at the hotel, we ask you to please time your arrival for between 5-6 pm on Friday night as our Welcome Night festivities will start sometime around 7pm.
We have many young campers that travel alone to our camp. You can request "Unaccompanied Minor" service from all the airlines. They will make sure that your child stays in the care of the Airlines until the approved pickup person picks up the child at the other end. You would simply register our camp as the receiving party. The cost is minimal and some airlines do this for free. You can also request the same service for the return portion so that they stay with airline staff right from when we check them in on the departure day. Minors traveling alone to our camp should carry our travel form
Follow Highway 99 North to Whistler until you reach Village Gate Blvd. - turn right into village. Take first right at lights onto Whistler Way. Continue along Whistler Way to Tantalus Resort Lodge - the last property on the left.
Departures: Our camp bus generally leaves Whistler around 7 am, and arrives at Vancouver International Airport at approx. 10 am, pending traffic conditions. Most airlines require travelers to check in at least 2 hours prior to departure. Please keep this in mind when booking your flights.
If you’ll be staying with us for more than one camp, Friday will be a rest day. Our private area on the glacier will be closed for maintenance, and campers will spend the day off-hill with a staff member.
It is always a good idea to have some Canadian money on hand for incidentals and gifts. Our campers generally spend $10-20 Cdn per day.
Most stores in Whistler will take US funds, however the exchange rate will vary. There are a variety of places to exchange money in Whistler. Traveler’s cheques are also
Over the years our camp has prided itself in mutual trust developed between the campers and the staff.
We operate on a free and open system of supervision, but if rules are broken, then staff and campers talk SERIOUSLY to resolve the problem. We’re all here for a good time and for that reason, certain common sense rules must be followed. We look forward to a great, fun-filled camp!
